Aging Skin
Aging not only affects our physical body but also our psychological state of mind and our quality of life. For this article, we examine the aging of our skin. Did you know that in reality there are 2 processes involved in aging of our aging in general? The only thing we have no control, while the other, we have some control.
1.Intrinsic (internal) aging: The aging process is due to genes we inherited from our parents.
2.Extrinsic (external) aging: Assuming you have normal genes in healthy aging is responsible for extrinsic premature aging of the skin. It is that aging occurs due to environmental factors like sun exposure and smoking. Exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) represents 90% of the symptoms of premature aging.
Intrinsic aging:
It is the natural aging process that each of us we spend our life. Even our early 20's we are growing in our time. Intrinsic aging begins in our mid 20's at the cellular level that actual results may only be visible to us years later. The aging process affects all 3 layers (epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous layer) skin. See what happens to each of them.
Skin: It is the most top layer of skin and this layer of our skin pigment melanin is produced. With intrinsic aging of skin cells becomes thinner and less sticky. The thinning of this layer makes the skin thinner. By becoming a function less sticky barrier effectiveness of this layer is reduced and therefore can not effectively conserve water in the skin. This leads to increased TWELVE (trans epidermal water loss), causing dry skin. Also the surface of dead cells do not shed as quickly and the renewal of the cells may decrease.
Dennis is the middle layer of the skin. These layers of skin structure. Here the structural components such as collagen and elastin are produced. With the intrinsic skin aging gradually loses its ability to repair itself effectively. Decreased production of collagen and elastin, causing skin to lose its structural integrity and elasticity. This leads to wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity and SAG. In addition, fewer sweat glands and the amount of sebum produced is reduced. Both factors contribute to the result of dry skin.
Subcutis: The fat cells absorb the shock and isolation. With the aging of cells intrinsic fat is reduced, which makes wrinkles more visible and therefore also created "shipwreck" of the skin, causing sunken cheeks.
The signs of intrinsic aging:
1.Fine wrinkles
2.Thinning skin
3.Dry skin and itching associated
4.Loss underlying fat: the sunken cheeks and the orbits
The loss of gray 5.Hair
6.Growth unwanted hair
EXTRINSIC AGING
Extrinsic aging is caused by environmental factors and patterns of life, and is responsible for premature aging of the skin. Sun exposure is the leading cause of premature aging. Other Factors contributing to premature skin aging, smoking, repetitive facial expressions, sleeping position and gravity. See what everyone does.
A) exposure to sunlight: the aging due to sun exposure is also known as photoaging. As the leading cause extrinsic aging, we see this in depth.
How does the sun damage to our skin? The damage caused by sun radiation. Those of us interested in the ultraviolet (UV). There are 3 types of UV radiation:
1.UVA radiation: Aging: – It is the main factor contributing to skin damage and photoaging. Penetrates in the skin of UVB. It damages the skin cells, mainly because of the formation of free radicals. Its intensity is largely determined by time of day or the season. It does not penetrate glass. Therefore, you can enter our homes and offices across the glass windows. Thus, even when inside, we will continue to photo-aging. It is therefore essential to use a moisturizer that protects against UVA throughout the interior.
2.UVB radiation: Burning – that affects the epidermis, the outer layer skin. He is responsible in particular for the burn, but also contributes to skin damage. It is more intense when the sun is shining, 11:00-3:00. It is more intense in the summer months. However, this does not penetrate glass.
3.UVC radiation: the most dangerous and can increase cancer incidence. Fortunately, is blocked by the ozone layer of the skin.
Effect on the different skin layers:
1.Epidermis: UV radiation causes thinning of the cells epidermis. It also leads to skin lesions such as actinic keratoses, and even skin cancer.
2.Dermis: Ultraviolet radiation increases the rate destruction of structural proteins, collagen. It is also responsible for the formation and accumulation of abnormal elastin. The accumulation of abnormal elastin stimulates increased production of an enzyme called matrix metalloproteinases. Normally, this enzyme is responsible for the repair of damaged cells by the sun in the manufacture and collagen remodeling. However, when the value is way too much of this enzyme, also breaks down collagen and collagen also unhealthy forms. Repeat process contributes to the abnormal formation of wrinkles. UV radiation also causes free radicals are molecules high energy that can damage cells and DNA in the same cells, leading to mutations.
Signs of photoaging:
1.Fine wrinkles
2.Thinning skin
3.Age also known as spots or liver spots (nothing to do with the liver)
4.Actinic keratosis
The tanned 5.Rough
6.Solar elastosis. Thickening of the skin with deep wrinkles often seen in the back of the neck
7.Skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma (a form of skin cancer most severe)
The degree of photo-induced in an individual depends on the color of their skin and the amount of exposure the sun they have had. People with dark skin have more protection than lighter-skinned people from the sun. Photoaging occurs over a period of several years. With repeated exposure to the skin loses its ability to repair itself and the damage accumulates.
B) Smoking: Studies have shown smoking to accelerate the process aging. It can lead to deep wrinkles and leathery skin. Some long-term smokers and even in May to develop a yellow tint of her skin. Interestingly, studies have shown that smokers who quit, notice an improvement in their skin.
C) The facial expressions: a repeated movement of facial muscles, usually in the habit of expression can lead to wrinkles. Such that the lines on the forehead and around the sides of the eyes.
D) sleep position: a person may develop "lines of sleep over a period of years if the person puts his face in the same position each time he / she goes to sleep. The line sleep are visible on the chin and cheeks of those who sleep on their sides.
E) Gravity: As our skin loses its elasticity with age youth, the effect of gravity becomes part …. most visible of our body start to collapse, as droopy eyelids, and ear lobes, etc.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
For those of you who are still young and healthy skin, which is now better prepared to protect your skin against aging premature. And for those of you who already have some degree of accelerated aging extrinsic factors, not value. There are still things you can do to prevent major damage:
1.Balanced Diet: skin cells, like all other body cells of nutrient requirements for energy production and function effectively. A healthy balanced diet will provide a steady supply of essential nutrients for the cells need. Fruits and vegetables are also an excellent source of antioxidants.
2.Sun Protection: The importance of proper sun protection can not be emphasized enough. Knowing what we know about the dangers of sun exposure, we must use the appropriate sunscreen to prevent skin photoaging. We can do this by using a sunscreen with SPF broad-spectrum, high (SPF 15 or higher), wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses. The most important thing is not to treat sunburn. Among the skin cancers, melanoma evil is the most dangerous because it often spreads to other parts of the body. If you notice any changes in moles or lesions that appear unusual blows on your skin always consult your doctor, especially if you had long periods of sun exposure. It is equally important to educate our children about the dangers of ultraviolet radiation, as visible signs of sun damage takes years to manifest. In May, it will be too late. Skin cancers take some time to develop
3.Lifestyle factors: i) If you have not started smoking, if you like. If you're a smoker, there are many options to help you quit. You can even talk to your doctor if you had difficulty quitting in the past. ii) Try to change your sleeping position. Try sleeping on your back. Of course, once you are asleep you do not control your sleeping position. iii) regular exercise increases oxygen consumption by our organization.
Sun damage is cumulative. Knowing what we know the harmful effects of UV rays from the sun, I think is very important to us, not just to protect us, but to educate our children in danger Exposure to the sun without adequate sun protection. Remember that all children in their innocence, love the outdoors. And with the right knowledge, they can still enjoy the outdoors, but will be better equipped to protect against the dangers of sun exposure such as premature skin aging, and more seriously against cancer skin. Take care of the skin where we are, because it is the only one we had in this life.
